Germany’s friendly with the Netherlands on Tuesday was called off because of an “intention to ignite explosives” at the Hannover stadium.

Evacuation began less than two hours before kick-off after a “concrete security threat”, said the city’s president of police Volker Kluwe.

The footballer confirms Rebecca Ellison, mother to his three children, “passed away peacefully” on Friday night.

Former England footballer Rio Ferdinand has confirmed that his wife, Rebecca Ellison, has died from cancer.

The Queen’s Park Rangers defender said his “wonderful wife” passed away peacefully at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London after a short illness.

In a statement, the 36-year-old added: “My soulmate slipped away last night. She was a fantastic, loving mother to our three beautiful children. read more

David Beckham Tops Richest Footballers List

The footballer’s personal fortune makes him the world’s richest player above the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

David Beckham has topped the list of the top 50 richest players in the world with a personal fortune of £175m.

The former England captain, who recently signed for Paris Saint-Germain and is donating his salary to a local children’s charity,  is followed by Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, who is rated as the world’s highest paid footballer, earning an estimated £100,000 a day.

The Goal Rich List 2013 puts the combined wealth of the top 50 players in the world at over £1.7bn, which is greater than the GDP of Liberia. read more

Kate and William now Open England training Centre

William and Kate this afternoon officially opened the England training centre.

Opening the centre, William and Kate were given a tour before joining the England squad and manager Roy Hodgson on a training pitch. The royal couple chatted to players including Steven Gerrard and Ashley Cole.

Afterwards, the Duke of Cambridge, who is the FA’s president and a keen Aston Villa fan, made a speech in which he said he felt the same sense of pride and excitement at seeing the new facilities as he had when he visited the Olympic Park in London earlier in the year.

He added: “It will be far more than just a world class training facility for our future world-beating national team. It is more than just a university from which thousands of highly qualified coaches will graduate. It is also a magnificent example of the sort of social initiative that brings opportunity and purpose to wider British life.” read more

Kate And William To Open England Training Centre

From now on in England will have a state-of-the-art football training centre, costing £105m.

It will be at St George’s Park, just outside Burton-on-Trent in Staffordshire, boasts 11 outdoor pitches, world class gym and medical facilities, and will allow England teams to train on a pitch with the exact same grass measurements as Wembley.

From now on England has a training camp in the United Kingdom with the state-of-the-art equipment a swimming pool, a fully kitted out gym and of course a football pitch with grounds man from Wembley Stadium the grass is exactly the same as Wembley Stadium. read more

Fabrice Muamba has announced his retirement from football.

The Bolton midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch during an FA Cup at Tottenham in March — and says he has to put his health first.
Muamba thanked the medical staff who saved his life after his heart stopped for 78 minutes.
He says he’s been overwhelmed by support from the public and is devastated his career is over – but told his fans to keep smiling.
Despite having an operation on his heart last week – doctors have advised him that playing top-level football is not worth the risk.
