The Government’s own figures reveal many pensioners will ultimately be worse off under a system with a single flat rate.

The Government wants to change the pension system that one flat rate pension fits all scenarios. This new system that will be implemented from 2017 will leave more than half of pensioners worse off by 2060.

Ministers say the coalition’s plans to simplify the system will particularly help women, low earners and the self-employed. read more

Royal birthday: Duchess Catherine turns 31

Kate Middleton Celebrates her birthday today . She turns 31 and in a few months the couple will be moving into  Kensington Palace to prepare for  their first child.

Kate celebrated her birthday with her husband Prince William and her family at the latest Cirque de Soleil show at the Royal Albert Hall

The couple joined the Duchess’ parents Michael and Carole Middleton and her siblings Jamesand Pippa in the capital on Wednesday evening to see the company’s new show Kooza. They enjoyed the spectacle from the royal box, though St James’ Palace although the family outing was entirely “private”.

The Prime Minister says the change to child benefit – which will see families with an earner on more than £50,000 lose out – is the “right approach”.

 David Cameron has defended the cuts to child benefit, but on the other hand, he has stated that their fundamentally fair and necessary the changes took effect from midnight

He says that introducing these changes will raise £2billion a year, he added. If we don’t manage to raise the funds the money would have to be financed from another area so and now the group of people would be worse off

“I think people see it as fundamentally fair that if there is someone in the household earning over £60,000 you don’t get child benefit.” read more

Independent Living Fund to be shut down by 2015.

 The fund supports at the moment 21.000 people with severe disabilities and encourage people to stay out of residential care. This fond will be phased out by 2015. The £359m Independent Living Fund pays out an average of £300 a week, to help people pay for carers so they can live at home and not in a care home.

It was already shut to new applicants for this year and will now shut to new claims permanently, said the minister for disabled people, Maria Miller.

Payments to existing users are to continue until 2015. read more

Around one million letters will be issued during November to families affected by next year’s changes to Child Benefit.

The letters explain the new High Income Child Benefit Charge that takes effect from 7 January 2013.

The new charge will apply when a taxpayer’s or their partner’s income is more than £50,000 in a tax year and if they or their partner receives Child Benefit.

For those with income of more than £60,000, the tax charge is 100 per cent of the amount of Child Benefit. If income is between £50,000 and £60,000, the charge is gradually increased to 100 per cent of the Child Benefit. read more
