Solar Impulse 2: Plane Forced To Land In Japan

Solar Impulse 2: Plane Forced To Land In Japan

Bad weather has forced a solar-powered plane to halt its attempt to circumnavigate the globe and make an unscheduled landing in Japan.

Solar Impulse 2 pilot Andre Borschberg was 36 hours into what was expected to be a six-day journey from China to Hawaii, when he was forced into a holding pattern ahead of a planned crossing of the Pacific Ocean.

The experimental craft took off from Abu Dhabi in March, but it was always known that the Pacific crossing would be the most challenging part of the journey.

No ship or plane is trailing Solar Impulse 2 – meaning any failure over the ocean would have prompted a parachute descent with a life raft into the water. read more

Samsung Galaxy S6 And S6 Edge

Samsung Galaxy S6 And S6 Edge

It’s actually pretty difficult to imagine a more important smartphone launch in recent history than the Galaxy S6.

Important in the sense that it was absolutely vital for the manufacturer in question, Samsung, to not only get it right, but to absolutely knock it out of the park.

As always, there was the usual pressure  created by months of hype, rumour-mongering, and the rabid, eager anticipation of millions of Samsung fans, but on top of that you had the fact that Samsung handsets have been a bit disappointing for a while now AND, most crucially of all, the Galaxy S5, the last shot at this, was pretty much a flop. It failed to capture consumers’ imaginations, and did not sell too well at all.

So Samsung knew this time round it needed a BIG hit with the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 EDGE –– anything less would’ve been a disaster with dire consequences for the Galaxy S brand and Samsung’s bottom line in 2015. read more

Apple Watch

Apple, known for keeping its product developments under the strictest of lock-and-key, gave ABC News exclusive access into its top secret health and fitness lab, where only Apple employees became test subjects for the new Apple Watch.

Apple engineers, managers and developers have been secretly volunteering for the past year in this state-of-the-art lab to participate in rowing, running, yoga and many more fitness activities in order to collect data for the Apple Watch’s inner workings.

“[The employees] knew they were testing something, but they didn’t know it was for the Apple Watch,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s senior vice president of operations. “We hooked them up with all the masks and so forth, but we would put on an Apple Watch covered up.”

Apple Watch was first unveiled last September and it’s slated to be in stores next month. Ranging in price from $349 for the Apple Watch Sport to $17,000 for the 18-carat gold Apple Watch Edition, the watch contains a “health kit,” which can track everything from your heart rate, calories burned, distance walked and how much the user stands per day. read more
