Cilla Black’s Funeral Prepares To Say Farewell To Showbiz Star

Cilla Black’s Funeral Prepares To Say Farewell To Showbiz Star. The cortege route for Cilla Black’s funeral in Liverpool on Thursday has been announced.

The family of the entertainer, who died on 1 August, has asked those wishing to pay their respects to line a two-mile stretch of Woolton Road.

The funeral will be held at St Mary’s Church, in the suburb of Woolton, at 13:00 BST (12:00 GMT).

More than 3,000 people signed books of condolence in Liverpool, the star’s home city, following her death.

The funeral cortege will start at the junction of Woolton Road and Church Road North, and will travel to the junction with Blackwood Avenue before continuing to the church.

The family said the public would not be able to access the church grounds and asked people not to travel to Woolton village as “as this may compromise the funeral party and invited guests from attending”.

After the funeral, the entertainer’s body will be laid to rest at a private ceremony in Allerton Cemetery, where her parents are buried

Some parking and traffic management restrictions will be in place on the day:

  • Church Road closed to general traffic between Allerton Road and Ridgetor Road
  • Mason Street closed from Woolton Street to Church Road
  • Mount Street and St Mary’s Street closed to general traffic
  • All the above roads will also be subject to parking restrictions
  • It may also be necessary to close a section of Allerton Road between Woolton Street and Quarry Street

Black, who made her name as a pop singer in the 1960s before becoming the host of hit TV shows Blind Date and Surprise Surprise, died after a fall at her villa in Estepona on the Costa del Sol.

A coroner ruled last week that the 72-year-old died from an accidental traumatic head injury.

The star made a posthumous comeback to the UK music charts last week when her greatest hits collection, The Very Best Of Cilla Black, rose to number eight in the UK albums chart.

Her former number one single Anyone Who Had A Heart, first released in 1964, returned to the charts at number 41.

Cilla Black Dies Aged 72

Cilla Black Dies Aged 72. Singer and TV star Cilla Black, who enjoyed a 50-year showbusiness career, has died aged 72, police in Spain say.

The 1960s singing star became a popular TV celebrity on such shows as Blind Date and Surprise Surprise.

Born Priscilla White in Liverpool, Black changed her name to launch a singing career with hits such as Anyone Who Had a Heart and You’re My World.

She made her TV debut in 1968 with her own BBC One primetime series and went on to host a number of shows for ITV.

News agency Reuters said police in Malaga said Priscilla White had died in Estepona in the Costa del Sol region.

The death appeared to be due to natural causes, but this had not yet been confirmed by tests, police told the news agency.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out, although early indications suggest Black – who suffered from hearing problems and arthritis – died of natural causes.

A post-mortem examination revealed she was knocked unconscious and died of a stroke.

In the family statement which was given ,they declared she would not have suffered.

Cilla Black may have had a chance of survival had she been found straight away, a pathologist’s report has revealed.

The singer died from a stroke after falling and hitting her head at her Spanish villa.

It is believed she was not found for at least four hours.

A pathologist report into the 72-year-old’s death revealed the injury she suffered does not usually cause death but she was also showing signs of heat stroke.

The ten-page report confirmed the former Blind Date presenter suffered a subarachnoid haemorrhage – a rare form of stroke caused by bleeding on the surface of the brain.

The medical experts who examined her said the haemorrhage had been caused by a head injury they thought she suffered as she fell backwards and hit her terrace wall.

Last year Black received honours from Bafta and the Royal Television Society in recognition of her lengthy career.

A recent ITV drama series about her early years saw her played by the actress Sheridan Smith.

Her music career began while working as a hat check girl at Liverpool’s famous Cavern Club.

It was there she met her husband-to-be Bobby Willis and performed alongside such acts as The Beatles and Gerry and the Pacemakers.

She was soon brought to the attention of manager Brian Epstein and released her first single, Love of the Loved, in September 1963.

The following year she released the ballads You’re My World and Anyone Who Had a Heart, both of which went to number one.

She and Willis wed in 1969 and remained married until his death in 1999 at the age of 57.
The couple had three sons, one of whom, Robert, succeeded his father as her manager.
