Fast, Lightweight Deliveries Within a 7.5-Mile Radius

The service targets packages under 5 pounds (2.2 kilograms), focusing on everyday essentials. Customers within a 7.5-mile (12 km) radius of Amazon’s local fulfillment center can now receive their orders in as little as two hours. This ultra-fast delivery model promises unprecedented convenience, reshaping expectations for online shopping.

Limited Launch with Ambitious Growth Plans

Amazon currently operates up to ten drone flights per hour, enabling a maximum of 100 deliveries each weekday during this initial rollout. The company aims to expand this service gradually, responding to increasing consumer demand for swift and reliable delivery options.

Drone Delivery: From Healthcare Trials to Everyday Shopping

While drones have already been trialed by the NHS to transport blood supplies in London and by Royal Mail to reach remote Orkney communities, Amazon’s launch represents the first large-scale use of drones for regular retail deliveries in the UK. Presently, Darlington stands as the only location outside the United States where Amazon is conducting these drone deliveries.
