A tragic collision claimed the life of a 44-year-old man on Scotland’s M80 motorway, shutting down a crucial stretch for more than 15 hours and causing significant traffic disruption.

Police Scotland received reports of a pedestrian collision on the M80 near Denny at approximately 12:20 a.m. on Thursday. Emergency responders arrived swiftly, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed no other injuries resulted from the incident.

Extended Closure and Traffic Impact
The motorway shut down both northbound and southbound lanes between junctions 9 and 8, near the Sclandersburn Road overbridge. The northbound lane reopened shortly after 3:30 p.m., with the southbound lane following around 4:00 p.m.
Traffic Scotland warned drivers of severe congestion during peak hours, with northbound delays reaching nearly an hour and southbound backups lasting about 20 minutes. Motorists faced detours spanning roughly 17 miles in both directions.

Sergeant Michael Shillington expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and friends, emphasizing the seriousness of the investigation. He urged anyone who witnessed the crash but has not yet spoken to police to come forward. Additionally, he requested drivers with dashcam footage from the area around the time of the collision to assist with inquiries.
