Reform UK Councillor Suspended Over Inflammatory Anti-Islam and Antisemitic Posts

Newly Elected Plymouth Councillor Faces Party Suspension

Ben Rowe, recently elected to Plymouth City Council with an overwhelming 1,649 votes—more than twice the tally of Labour’s Tina Tuohy—now confronts suspension from Reform UK. The party took swift action after a series of disturbing social media posts surfaced, revealing extremist and hateful content targeting Islam and Jewish communities.

Reform UK Launches Investigation After Offensive Posts Emerge

The inflammatory posts, which appeared on Rowe’s Facebook account before the election, included a blackface meme, provocative images demanding to “Free the world of Islam,” and photos of fake shotgun shells loaded with bacon—clearly designed to offend Muslim sensibilities.

Reform UK confirmed to the BBC that they have suspended Rowe pending a thorough investigation. A party spokesperson stated, “Cllr Rowe has been suspended from Reform UK pending investigation.” This decisive move underscores the party’s intolerance for hate speech within its ranks.

Antisemitic Remarks Exposed in Prior Online Comments

Further scrutiny revealed Rowe’s February comment beneath a YouTube video, where he accused “the Jews” of “creating division by forcing other races on our societies.” He also disparaged immigrants to the UK, claiming they were “breeding like rats.” These statements, reported earlier by The Times, amplify concerns about his extremist views.

Community Reacts as Party Addresses Controversy

The suspension of this councillor marks a critical moment for Reform UK as it grapples with holding its members accountable for hate-driven rhetoric. The Plymouth community and political observers await the outcome of the internal investigation, emphasizing the need for representatives who uphold respect and inclusivity.
