Changes to fares from 2 January 2016
On 2 January, some fares will be changing across our network.
- On average, fares will increase by 1%
- Some stations in the Stratford area will change zones
- 5-10 year olds will be able to travel free on most National Rail services if they have a 5-10 Oyster photocard
Later in January, pay as you go (with a contactless payment or Oyster card) will be accepted for travel to Gatwick Airport.
1% is the average increase across all fares. Fare changes are rounded to the nearest 5p or 10p. Some fares will increase by more or less than 1%, others will not change.
If you usually buy a 7 Day, monthly or longer period Travelcard or Bus & Tram Pass, you can save money by buying it to start before 2 January. Remember you can order your new Travelcard online or by phone, which must be done by the following times on 31 December 2015:
- online – before 23:00
- phone – before 20:00
Changes to bus and tram fares
Overall, bus and tram fares will increase by 1%.
- Pay as you go (with a contactless payment or Oyster card) fares will be frozen:
– adult-rate at £1.50
– half adult-rate at 75p - The cost of a paper single ticket on trams will increase from £2.50 to £2.60 (adult-rate only)
- Daily caps will increase:
– adult-rate from £4.40 to £4.50
– half adult-rate from £2.20 to £2.25 - One Day Bus & Tram Passes will be frozen at £5.00
- The Bus & Tram Monday to Sunday cap (contactless only, at adult-rate) will increase from £21.00 to £21.20
- 7 Day Bus & Tram Passes (Oyster only) will increase:
– adult-rate from £21.00 to £21.20
– 18+ Student/Apprentice Oyster photocard rate – from £14.60 to £14.80
– half adult-rate from £10.50 to £10.60 - Monthly and longer period Bus & Tram Passes will increase proportionately

Changes to single journeys on Tube, DLR and London Overground
- Most adult-rate pay as you go fares (with a contactless payment or Oyster card) within Zones 1-6 will be frozen. However:
- – the Zone 1 peak fare will increase by 10p
- – the Zone 1-2 off-peak fare will increase by 10p
- – fares which include travel beyond Zone 6 will be frozen or increase by 10p
- 5-10 Zip Oyster photocard holders continue to travel free and this is being extended to include most National Rail services (but not for journeys on Southeastern high speed services between Stratford International and St Pancras International)
- Adult-rate cash fares will increase by 10p except the Zones 1-6 fare which will be frozen
- Child-rate cash fares will be frozen, except the fare for Zones 1-7, which will increase by 10p
Changes to single journey fares on National Rail
- Most adult-rate pay as you go fares (with a contactless payment or Oyster card) will increase by 10p within Zones 1-6. Fares which include travel beyond Zone 6 will be frozen or increase by 10p
- Half adult-rate fares in general will increase by 5p within Zones 1-6. Fares which include travel beyond Zone 6 will be frozen or increase by 5p
- Child-rate off-peak fares for 11-15 Oyster photocard holders will be frozen within Zones 1-6. Fares which include travel beyond Zone 6 will be frozen or increase by 5p
- All fares will be frozen on Southeastern high speed services
Changes to capping (all services)
- Additional daily caps will be introduced for Zones 1-7 and Zones 1-8
- Zones 1-7/8/9 adult-rate peak daily caps will be charged at 20% of the equivalent 7 Day Travelcard season ticket price. The off-peak daily cap for Zones 1-9 will increase by 10p
- The remaining adult-rate daily caps will increase by 10p or 20p
- Child-rate off-peak daily caps will be frozen at £1.50 in Zones 1-9
- Monday to Sunday caps will increase by an average of 0.9%
Changes to Travelcards
- Adult-rate Day Travelcard prices will increase by 10-20p
- Most child-rate Day Travelcard prices will be frozen, except for Anytime Zones 1-6 and 1-9 which will increase by 10p
- Adult-rate Group Day Travelcard prices will be frozen for Zones 1-6 and will increase by 10p for Zones 1-9. Child-rate Group Day Travelcard prices will be frozen
- Travelcard season ticket prices will increase by an average of 0.9%

Changes to Emirates Air Line
- The adult-rate pay as you go (with a contactless payment or Oyster card) fare will increase from £3.40 to £3.50
- The child-rate pay as you go (with a contactless payment or Oyster card) fare will be frozen at £1.70
- The adult-rate Boarding Pass will be frozen at £4.50 (full rate) and will increase from £3.40 to £3.50 (discounted rate on production of a Travelcard or Freedom Pass)
- The child-rate Boarding Pass will be frozen at £2.30 (full rate) and £1.70 (discounted rate on production of a Travelcard)
- All other fares and ticket prices will be frozen
River services
- All fares and ticket prices will be frozen
Rezoning of stations around Stratford
From 2 January 2016 the following stations will be rezoned from Zone 3 to boundary Zones 2/3:
- Abbey Road
- Canning Town
- Star Lane
- Stratford
- Stratford High Street
- Stratford International DLR
- West Ham
If you usually buy a Zones 1-3 Travelcard to travel to/from these stations and central London you might only need one that covers Zones 1-2. Find out where you can buy a Travelcard on Oyster.
You may be eligible for a refund for the difference in price for the remaining days on your Zones 1-3 Travelcard if most of your travel is to/from the rezoned stations. Find out more.
Free travel for 5-10 Oyster photocard holders on National Rail
If you have a 5-10 Oyster photocard you will be able to travel free on most* National Rail services, in addition to free travel on TfL services from 2 January 2016.
If you don’t have a 5-10 Oyster photocard you will be charged a child-rate fare on most National Rail services in London.
*Child rate fares will be charged on Southeastern high speed services between St Pancras International and Stratford International

If you usually buy a 7 Day, monthly or longer period Travelcard or Bus & Tram Pass, you can save money by buying it to start before 2 January.
You can order your new Travelcard online or by phone (0343 222 1234, TfL call charges apply), which must be done by the following times on 31 December 2015:
- online – before 23:00
- phone – before 20:00
You can also buy your ticket in advance from:
- an Oyster Ticket Stop – local newsagents and shops (up to 7 days in advance)
- London Overground and TfL Rail station ticket offices and ticket machines
- National Rail station ticket offices and ticket machines that sell tickets on Oyster
You can’t buy Bus & Tram Pass or Travelcard season ticket with a start date of 2 January 2016 (or later) in advance from Tube station ticket machines.
Pay as you go to Gatwick coming soon
From early 2016, you will be able to use pay as you go between Merstham and Gatwick Airport and on Gatwick Express between Victoria and Gatwick Airport.
