A chilling tragedy unfolded in Exeter as a 92-year-old man now faces murder charges following the death of his 87-year-old wife. The elderly woman was discovered lifeless in their supported accommodation, sparking an urgent police investigation.
Police Respond to Welfare Concerns
At approximately 12:40 p.m. on April 19, officers were summoned to a residence in Exeter after concerns arose over the woman’s wellbeing. The victim was subsequently identified by Devon and Cornwall Police as Shirley Billam.
Husband Charged and Court Appearance Scheduled
Authorities confirmed that Laurence Billam, aged 92 and residing on Millbrook Lane, was arrested and charged with the murder of his wife. He is scheduled to appear before Exeter Magistrates’ Court later today.
While police initially withheld details about the relationship between the two individuals, it has now been confirmed that they were husband and wife.
