Cross-Border Operation Targets Organised Crime
In a decisive crackdown on organised crime, police seized an estimated £4 million worth of cannabis at Larne Harbour, Northern Ireland. The haul was intercepted during a strategic stop and search of a lorry traveling from Scotland to the port on Monday.
Joint Effort Between PSNI and An Garda Síochána
The operation was a coordinated effort between the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) and An Garda Síochána, Ireland’s national police and security force. Officers uncovered the drugs hidden inside numerous boxes loaded in the vehicle.
A PSNI spokesperson revealed, “We believe the drugs in this consignment were intended to supply various organised crime groups across the island of Ireland.”
Suspect Arrested and Charged
A 53-year-old man has been arrested and charged with possession of a Class B controlled drug, as well as possession with intent to supply. Additional charges include driving without a license and operating a vehicle without insurance.
The suspect is scheduled to appear before Antrim Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Ballymena Magistrates’ Court, on Tuesday.
