The 57-year-old, alongside Scott Drewitt-Barlow, 32, co-owner of the Maldon and Tiptree Football Club, faces multiple charges including rape and human trafficking for sexual exploitation. Both men, residents of Danbury, Essex, are scheduled to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court this Friday.
Detailed Charges Unveiled
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has charged Barrie Drewitt-Barlow with three counts of sexual assault on a male, four counts of rape involving a man aged 16 or over, and two counts related to arranging or facilitating travel for exploitation purposes. Scott Drewitt-Barlow faces one count of sexual assault, one count of rape of a man 16 or older, and two counts of arranging or facilitating travel to exploit another individual.
Police Investigation and Arrests
Essex Police’s Serious Crime Directorate executed coordinated searches at properties in Danbury, Maldon, and Braintree on Wednesday, leading to the arrests of both men. Since then, the police have worked closely with the CPS to advance the case.

In response to the allegations, ITV has removed the documentary series Up The Jammers, which chronicled the Drewitt-Barlows’ venture into football club ownership. ITV confirmed the show will no longer air on ITV4 or the streaming platform ITVX as initially planned.
