No Border Delays for British Tourists in Greece This Summer, Confirms Tourism Minister

Seamless Entry and Exit for UK Visitors Guaranteed

British holidaymakers traveling to Greece this summer will glide through border controls without delays, even during peak season, according to Greece’s Tourism Minister, Olga Kefalogianni. She emphasized the Greek government’s commitment to sparing visitors from cumbersome bureaucratic hurdles upon arrival and departure.

Fast and Efficient Border Checks

Kefalogianni assured that British travelers will not undergo biometric checks throughout the summer, streamlining their entry into the country. Greek authorities are actively working to ensure that border inspections last under two minutes, minimizing wait times and enhancing the travel experience.

Understanding the EU’s New Entry-Exit System

In April, the European Union fully implemented the Entry-Exit System (EES), a digital border control procedure designed to register biometric data for visitors from outside the EU and European Economic Area. This system requires short-term visitors to provide fingerprints and a facial scan during their first crossing of the Schengen zone, with one biometric verification on subsequent entries and exits.

Mixed Results Across Europe, But Greece Ensures Smooth Passage

While some EU countries have faced significant issues with the EES, including long queues stretching up to three hours, Greece has taken proactive measures to avoid such disruptions. The government’s focus on efficiency aims to uphold Greece’s reputation as a traveler-friendly destination, especially crucial during the bustling summer months.
