The King celebrated the profound impact of Nigerian heritage on British society as he hosted a prestigious state banquet for President Bola Tinubu and his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, during their two-day state visit to the UK.
UK Enriched by Nigerian Excellence Across All Sectors
The King declared that Britain is truly blessed by the vibrant Nigerian community, which stands “at the heart of British life” by excelling in business, technology, academia, law, science, sport, literature, the arts, and public service. He praised the countless “quiet heroes” he has encountered in schools, businesses, the National Health Service, and universities.
“From Afrobeats energizing our concert halls and Nollywood captivating audiences on our screens, to Nigerian stars shining in the Premier League and presiding over our highest courts, Britain’s culture is deeply enriched by Nigeria,” the King remarked.

Sumptuous Banquet Celebrates Cultural Ties
The banquet featured an exquisite menu including quail egg tartlets, fillet of turbot, lobster mousse wrapped in spinach, and iced blackcurrant soufflé. Guests enjoyed the Crimson Bloom mocktail, crafted with the West African drink Zobo and other flavorful ingredients.
Respecting President Tinubu’s Muslim faith, he toasted with a soft drink, while the King warmly extended “Ramadan Mubarak” to mark the conclusion of the Islamic holy month. Alcohol was made available for other guests.
Historic Visit Marks Nigeria’s Rising Global Influence
This event marks the first state visit by a Nigerian head of state in 37 years. The King, who last visited Nigeria in 2018, highlighted the nation’s remarkable transformation and rising global stature, noting that Nigeria—a country of over 230 million people—has truly “arrived.”

Royal Welcome and Festivities at Windsor
The Nigerian delegation received a grand welcome at Windsor Castle from the King, Queen, and the Prince and Princess of Wales. An impressive guard of honour and a carriage ride in bright spring sunshine celebrated the momentous occasion. The streets of Berkshire were adorned with Nigerian and Union flags, underscoring the significance of this historic visit.

Fostering Faith and Leadership Dialogue
Later, the King and his guests explored treasures from the royal collection and engaged with organisations dedicated to interfaith dialogue at The Vicars’ Hall. Among the attendees were representatives from the Mosaic programme, an initiative by The King’s Trust charity that unites Muslim men and women leaders from diverse ethnic and theological backgrounds for leadership development.
