Notorious Georgia Shooting Suspect Found Dead in Cell
Olaolukitan Adon Abel, the 26-year-old British-born man accused of a brutal killing spree in Georgia, has died while in custody. Authorities discovered Abel unresponsive in his jail cell on Tuesday evening, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office. Despite emergency efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after.
Timeline of the Deadly Attacks
The shocking deaths unfolded within a single night last week across the Atlanta metropolitan area. Abel allegedly murdered three individuals in a chilling sequence described by officials as “an act of pure evil.”
On April 13, Abel fatally shot Prianna Weathers, 31, outside a fast-food restaurant in Decatur around 12:50 a.m. Approximately an hour later, at 2 a.m., he allegedly shot Tony Matthews, a 49-year-old homeless man, outside a supermarket in Brookhaven. Matthews succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.
Several hours later, at approximately 7 a.m., Lauren Bullis, 40, a Homeland Security employee, was found with fatal gunshot and stab wounds in Panthersville, just feet from Abel’s residence. Police are investigating whether Abel knew any of his victims personally but suspect at least one was randomly targeted.
Abel’s Military Background and Criminal Record
Abel enlisted in the US Navy in 2020 and last served with a helicopter strike squadron based in Coronado, California. He obtained US citizenship in 2022 while stationed in San Diego. Despite this, his past includes multiple convictions such as sexual battery, assault with a deadly weapon, battery against a police officer, obstruction, and vandalism.

US Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin condemned the killings, stating, “A DHS employee, Lauren Bullis, was brutally shot and stabbed to death by Olaolukitan Adon Abel, a 26-year-old, born in the United Kingdom, who was naturalised by the Biden administration in 2022.” He described the crimes as devastating acts that have deeply affected the department and extended prayers to the victims’ families.
Authorities have not released the cause of Abel’s death, but no suspicious circumstances are currently suspected. The investigation into these heinous murders continues as law enforcement seeks to understand the motives behind this tragic rampage.
