First Minister Michelle O’Neill Condemns Attack Near Belfast Police Station
Northern Ireland stands firm against any attempt to reverse the hard-won peace after a car bomb detonated near a police station just outside Belfast on Saturday night. The explosive device, hidden in the boot of a delivery driver’s vehicle, was forcibly brought to the Dunmurry police station in a shocking act of terror.
The delivery driver was coerced to drive the rigged car to the station located southwest of Belfast’s city centre. Officers discovered the vehicle abandoned and swiftly evacuated nearby residents, including two infants, just moments before the bomb exploded.

Leaders Unite in Strong Rejection of Violence
At a press briefing in Stormont on Monday morning, First Minister Michelle O’Neill expressed relief that no lives were lost but underscored the gravity of the incident. “We will not accept being dragged backwards,” she declared, addressing the perpetrators directly. “Those responsible for this selfish act have nothing to offer our society.”
O’Neill’s deputy, Emma Little-Pengelly, voiced her utter horror at the attack, emphasizing the importance of a united front. “We stand shoulder to shoulder in clear and unequivocal condemnation of this attack,” she said. “The perpetrators want to drag us back to the past. Our message to them is simple: go away, you are not wanted.”

She added, “This type of violence and terrorism has no place in the Northern Ireland of today or tomorrow.”
Security Response and Ongoing Investigation
The Terrorism Investigation Unit has launched an attempted murder inquiry into the incident. Chief Constable Jon Boutcher urged the public to come forward with any information to prevent future harm. “I appeal to anyone with information about these mindless thugs to contact us immediately before they injure or kill someone,” Boutcher warned.
This violent episode follows a similar recent event where a delivery driver was forced at gunpoint to transport an explosive to a police station in County Armagh, highlighting an alarming pattern of threats against law enforcement.
