Having served as CEO since 2020 and a director for 13 years, Hinton announced his resignation but will remain in his role until a successor is appointed. He previously committed to forgoing any bonus for 2026 in response to the crisis. South East Water stated, “Mr. Hinton has decided to step down as he feels his position has become an increasing distraction from South East Water’s most important priority, delivering a resilient water supply for its customers.“

Chris Train resigned immediately last week following a scathing report from the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee. The parliamentary committee condemned South East Water as “devoid of proper leadership” and “riddled with cultural problems,” explicitly calling for a fundamental reset of the company’s leadership and organizational culture.
Calls for Radical Leadership Change
The committee warned that meaningful reform requires a complete leadership overhaul at South East Water. In response, Lisa Clement, the interim independent non-executive chair, expressed gratitude for Hinton’s extensive service, stating, “The board acknowledges and thanks Dave for his many years of loyal dedication and service to South East Water.“
