Brutal Murder Unfolds Within Hours of Rental
Enzo Bettamio, an 18-year-old dual Brazilian and Italian national, stands accused of fatally stabbing Kamonnan Thiamphanit, also known as Angela, just hours after reserving a room in her London home. The chilling crime took place in early April 2024, shaking the Hyde Park neighborhood where the victim lived.
Timeline of a Deadly Encounter
Bettamio arrived in the UK from Los Angeles on April 5, 2024. Shortly after, he booked a month-long stay via Airbnb at Ms. Thiamphanit’s property on Stanhope Place, near Hyde Park.
That evening, Ms. Thiamphanit enjoyed board games with friends, unaware of the horror to come. In the early hours of April 6, she left, citing an emergency at her home. An Uber dropped her off at 4:24 a.m. — the last confirmed sighting of her alive.
Within approximately 13 hours, Bettamio allegedly hailed a black cab on Bayswater Road, heading to an airport where he purchased a ticket to Dubai, attempting to flee the country.
Discovery and Charges
Concerned friends alerted police when Ms. Thiamphanit failed to respond. Authorities forced entry on April 8 and discovered her lifeless body, bearing multiple stab wounds.
Prosecutor Nadeem Holland revealed that a large silver knife remained lodged in the side of her neck, underscoring the brutality of the attack.
Legal Proceedings Underway
Bettamio was extradited from the United Arab Emirates on April 24, 2024. Upon arrival in the UK, police arrested him at Charing Cross Police Station and charged him with murder.
Appearing via video link at the Old Bailey, Bettamio’s case is now moving forward. Judge Simon Mayo KC scheduled a plea hearing for July 14, with a provisional trial date set for February 1, 2025. Bettamio remains remanded in custody as the court prepares for the upcoming proceedings.
