President Donald Trump delivered a stark assessment of the fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran, declaring it to be on “massive life support” during a press briefing in the Oval Office on Monday. Though the ceasefire technically remains intact, Trump emphasized its precarious and “unbelievably weak” state, signaling escalating risks of renewed conflict.
Iran’s Defiant Response Escalates Diplomatic Tensions
In a swift rebuttal, Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf took to X (formerly Twitter), asserting that Iran’s armed forces stand “ready to respond and to teach a lesson for any aggression.” Ghalibaf further stressed that there is “no alternative but to accept the rights of the Iranian people as laid out in the 14-point proposal,” underscoring Tehran’s unwavering stance.
Ghalibaf warned, “The longer they drag their feet, the more American taxpayers will pay for it,” directly challenging US policymakers to reconsider their approach.
Tehran’s 14-Point Proposal: A Bold Framework to End Hostilities
On Sunday, Iran presented a detailed counter-offer aimed at ending hostilities and reopening the vital Strait of Hormuz. The proposal demands an immediate cessation of war on all fronts, including halting Israeli strikes against Iran-supported Hezbollah in Lebanon. It also calls for an end to the US naval blockade of Iranian ports and legally binding guarantees preventing future attacks on Iranian soil, according to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency.
Despite the proposal’s scope, President Trump categorically rejected it, branding the offer “totally unacceptable” and dismissing it as a “piece of garbage.”

Following Trump’s dismissal, Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s foreign ministry, defended Tehran’s counter-offer as both “responsible” and “generous,” highlighting Iran’s willingness to pursue a diplomatic resolution despite continued provocations.
