Scorching Heat Hits London and East Anglia, Outpacing Tropical Honolulu
The UK is poised to blaze hotter than iconic warm destinations like Hawaii and Athens this Friday, with temperatures soaring to a sizzling 27°C (80.6°F). The Met Office confirms this will mark the warmest day of the year so far, eclipsing Honolulu’s forecasted high of 26°C.

This surge in heat will push temperatures roughly 10°C (50°F) above the seasonal average, which typically ranges from 15°C to 17°C (59°F to 62.6°F). London and East Anglia will bask in the strongest sunshine, creating an intense wave of warmth driven by humid air flowing up from the south.
Cardiff Warmer Than Athens as Temperatures Climb
Meanwhile, Cardiff is set to outshine Athens, with temperatures reaching 19°C (66.2°F) in the Welsh capital. This unexpected warmth highlights the remarkable weather contrast across the UK.

Warnings of Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm Threaten Central UK
Despite the heat, the central UK—covering parts of Scotland, the Pennines, and the Midlands—faces a starkly different forecast. The Met Office warns of potential heavy rain and thunderstorms, signaling changeable conditions as the bank holiday weekend approaches.
Simon Partridge, a meteorologist at the Met Office, explained, “We’re experiencing very warm, humid air from the south, especially affecting the eastern and southeastern regions where sunshine will be at its peak.” Yet, he cautioned, “Not everyone will enjoy a warm, dry, and sunny day.”
Bank Holiday Weekend: From Sunshine to Showers and Rain
The weather outlook shifts dramatically over the weekend. Saturday promises a mix of bright spells and scattered showers, while Sunday brings widespread rain across much of the country. Temperatures will retreat to near seasonal norms by Monday, with northern areas cooling to 11°C–12°C (51.8°F–53.6°F) and the south reaching up to 16°C (60.8°F).
“It will feel noticeably fresher and chillier compared to the current warmth,” Mr. Partridge added, emphasizing the fleeting nature of this heatwave.
