Woman Faces Manslaughter Charge After Elderly Great-Grandmother Dies Following Assault
Dorothy Chiles, an 87-year-old great-grandmother, succumbed to injuries sustained during a brutal attack at Birmingham New Street railway station.

Attack Details and Medical Treatment
The assault occurred around 11 a.m. on November 19, 2024, on the busy station concourse. British Transport Police (BTP) reported that Ms. Chiles suffered a fractured hip in the violent incident. After undergoing surgery, she was discharged from the hospital on December 2, but tragically passed away at her home on December 27.
Suspect Charged and Court Appearance
Charlie Lane, 26, of Marlborough Road, Gloucester, now faces charges of manslaughter and a racially aggravated public order offence. Lane was released on conditional bail and is scheduled to appear at Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court on April 30.
Family Tribute to Dorothy Chiles
Following Ms. Chiles’s death, her family described her as “a lively, outgoing lady whose energy was contagious.” They honored her not only as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother but as “a best friend, a guiding light, and a source of endless joy.”
