Wimbledon’s Polka Theatre stages plays for children aged 0 – 13 years. Their Early Years programme in particular is tailored to the youngest members of the family, from 9 months upwards. The theatre was founded in 1979, and currently counts around 100,000 children as visitors each year. Famous patrons include Joanna Lumley, June Whitfield and Sophie Dahl.
Thanks to being charity-run ticket prices are kept relatively low (£9 on average), thereby encouraging as many people as possible to come along. Aside from the performances, Polka Theatre also run after-school workshops and summer schools for kids, offering subjects like storytelling and puppetry. There is a café on the premises as well as a small outdoor playground with a Wendy House, and an indoor play area including dressing up box, books and toys.
