Keats House

John Keats (1795-1821) is one of our most loved poets, celebrated throughout the world across language and cultural boundaries. His best poetry features among the most evocative and enduring in the English language.

Keats House in Hampstead was where he lived from 1818 to 1820 during the most creative period of his life when he composed some of his famous poems, including ‘Ode to a Nightingale’. It is also where he fell in love with his neighbour’s daughter, Fanny Brawne, who became one of the most important influences on his adult life. The house is today a place of literary pilgrimage for his many admirers around the world.

Additional Information: There is wheelchair access to the ground floor of Keats House. The Chester Room is accessed down two steps, but a portable ramp is available on request. The toilets in the garden are also wheelchair accessible. A sympathetic hearing scheme is in operation in the house and there is an Induction Loop at the Welcome desk.
