The Apollo Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue is renowned for showing comedies as well as dramatic works such as ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?’, ‘Rain Man’ and ‘The Price’ by Arthur Miller. The theatre has been in operation since 1901, and was the first theatre to be built in the 20th century. The Apollo Theatre is a little more intimate than some of its neighbours, seating just under 800 people, and the building is Grade II listed. The auditorium is on four levels and the balcony level is considered to be the highest in London.
