Safi Dawood, a 23-year-old Afghan migrant, has confessed to stabbing two individuals during a violent incident in west London. The attack, which took place on 27 October in Midhurst Gardens, Uxbridge, left one man dead and two others seriously injured.
Charges and Court Proceedings
Dawood faces severe charges including the murder of Wayne Broadhurst, and attempted murder of his landlord, Shahzad Farrukh, 45, along with a 14-year-old boy. At a hearing held on Monday at Southwark Crown Court, London, Dawood pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent in relation to Mr. Farrukh and admitted to causing actual bodily harm to the teenager.
However, Dawood did not enter a plea regarding the murder charge of Mr. Broadhurst. He also pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon but denied two alternative attempted murder charges. The 23-year-old participated in the hearing via videolink.
The Incident Details
Living as a lodger with Mr. Farrukh at the Midhurst Gardens address, Dawood reportedly brandished a knife and confronted a witness in her garden while family members rushed to assist Mr. Farrukh and the injured boy, who sustained minor hand wounds. A neighbor intervened by striking Dawood with a walking stick, forcing him to retreat.
Wayne Broadhurst, unrelated to Dawood, was fatally stabbed while walking his dog nearby. He succumbed at the scene after suffering multiple stab wounds, as revealed during earlier court sessions.
Next Steps in the Legal Process
Relatives of Mr. Broadhurst attended the Monday hearing in silent tribute. The court has scheduled a further case management hearing for 2 June, ahead of the trial set to begin on 13 July.
Background on Dawood
Dawood arrived in the UK in 2020, having entered concealed in a lorry. He applied for asylum, which was granted by the Home Office in 2022.
