More people have died from injuries sustained in a fire and stampede at Bucharest’s hip Colectiv nightclub. The death toll has risen to at least 56.
One of the latest victims was a young Romanian man who died on Sunday (November 8) after nine other injured people lost their lives.
About 100 people are still in hospital, more than 40 of them are in serious condition.
Emergency official Raed Arafat said at least eight patients have been transported by military plane to Rotterdam for specialist treatment.
“The situation is very critical because some of these patients are unstable, some of the patients became unstable very fast and suddenly, including during the transport,” said Arafat. “So, it is an issue we are really working very hard to do two things: one is decongest our hospitals, because the number of patients is still overwhelming for our physicians and nurses, and we need to lower that number a little bit, and at the same time [we have] to choose correctly the patients that can leave to others countries”
Footage has emerged showing young people enjoying a free performance by the metal band Goodbye to Gravity at the club before the deadly fire started.
The band’s drummer Bogdan Enache died today (November 8)en route to Switzerland for treatment.
