The Bush Theatre opened in April 1972 in the dining hall upstairs in the Bush Hotel.  The room had previously been a dance studio.  The Bush soon became a rich vein of writing and acting talent and began to attract big stars, as well as developing new ones.  Victoria Wood and Julie Walter first met at the Bush.  Victoria Woods first sketch was written on an old typewriter that she found there. Over the years actors such as Alan Rickman, Bob Hoskins and Patricia Hodge have trod the boards at the Bush.  Over the last three decades, the Bush has one more than one hundred awards- producing productions that have gone on the great success in the West End and Broadway.  Several of the productions have been adapted for television and the silver screen. Now considered one of the finest producers of new material in the country; the Bush Theatre has been a success from its first productions.  Among the most successful and iconic pieces was Happy Yellow by Tina Brown.  The Bush has an extensive bookshop, cataloguing its rich history of talent. The Bush Theatre, that powerhouse of new writing, is celebrating its 30th birthday… the British theatrical landscape would be a duller emptier place without it.  The Daily Telegraph.
