An 18-year-old man has been charged with the brutal murder of a 27-year-old woman in London after being extradited from the United Arab Emirates. Enzo Bettamio was flown from Dubai to the UK on Friday and promptly charged with the killing of Kamonnan Thiamphanit, also known as Angela.
Appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court
Bettamio appeared before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, facing serious allegations over the death of Ms. Thiamphanit. The victim was discovered at her residence in Stanhope Place, near Hyde Park, on the morning of 8 April 2024 after police forced entry. She had suffered multiple stab wounds, indicating a violent attack.
Investigation Details and Police Response
Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell, leading the Metropolitan Police investigation, expressed deep gratitude to Ms. Thiamphanit’s family and friends for their steadfast support throughout the challenging inquiry. She acknowledged the emotional toll the case has taken on them.
The Metropolitan Police referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct after officers received two calls from Ms. Thiamphanit’s friends the day before her body was found. At that time, the case was classified as a medium-risk missing person investigation before police forced entry and made the grim discovery.
Ms. Thiamphanit held Chinese, Hong Kong, and Thai nationalities, adding an international dimension to the case that unfolded in the heart of London.
