Cheshire Police executed a sweeping operation that led to the arrest of nine individuals linked to serious allegations of sexual abuse, forced marriage, and modern slavery within a religious community based in Crewe.
Multi-National Suspects Detained in Coordinated Raids
On Wednesday morning, officers raided three properties in Crewe, Cheshire, following an intensive investigation sparked by a victim’s report in March. The arrested group includes six men and three women holding American, Mexican, Italian, Spanish, Swedish, and Egyptian nationalities.
All suspects reportedly belong to the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light, a religious sect headquartered in Crewe. Police confirmed all offenses center around a single female victim who was a member of the group at the time the crimes occurred.

Operation Involving Over 500 Officers
More than 500 officers from Cheshire Police and neighboring forces participated in the early morning raids, which commenced around 8:50 a.m. The main site of the investigation is Webb House, a former orphanage now serving as the Ahmadi community’s base, where approximately 150 people reside.
In addition to Webb House, two other properties connected to the suspects were also searched as part of the operation.

Police Clarify Focus on Criminal Acts, Not Religion
Chief Superintendent Gareth Wrigley emphasized that the investigation targets criminal behavior, not the religious beliefs of the Ahmadi community. “This is a thorough investigation into serious sexual offenses, forced marriage, and modern slavery allegations reported to us,” he stated.
Wrigley reassured the public that law enforcement treats all sexual assault reports with utmost seriousness and is committed to securing justice for victims. He also highlighted ongoing efforts with partner agencies to provide safeguarding and support for other community members.
“There is no threat to the wider community,” Wrigley added, noting increased patrols to ensure local residents feel safe. He encouraged anyone with concerns to come forward and speak with officers.

International Cooperation and Community Impact
The investigation gained momentum following allegations made by a woman who has since relocated to the Republic of Ireland. She reported experiencing rape and sexual abuse within the Ahmadi group during 2023.
Authorities received valuable assistance from Europol, the Swedish Police Authority, and the Garda in Ireland, underscoring the cross-border nature of the inquiry.
The Ahmadi community established itself in Cheshire in 2021 after relocating from Sweden and purchasing Webb House as their headquarters. Welfare centers have been established to support 56 children from the community, all of whom are home-schooled.
Cheshire Police continue to investigate the allegations and provide protection to vulnerable individuals connected to the case.
