Riot Police Battle Hostile Crowd at Massive Unauthorised Event
Riot police faced relentless attacks as they battled to shut down a massive illegal rave near East Lulworth, Dorset, that drew an estimated 2,000 partygoers. The operation stretched nearly 24 hours, with officers enduring missile assaults and a fiercely hostile crowd before regaining control.

The unlicensed music event erupted late on Saturday night, first reported to authorities around 11:45pm on April 4. Over 100 vehicles flooded the area, compounding the chaos. Dorset Police described their personnel as coming under a “violent and hostile reception” while trying to disperse the crowd.
Ten Arrested Amid Violence and Disorder
Police arrested ten individuals during the prolonged operation. Charges ranged from driving under the influence to assaulting emergency workers. Assistant Chief Constable Steve Lyne praised officers’ perseverance, stating they “worked tirelessly throughout the day and into the evening” to restore order.
Lyne condemned the violence, emphasizing, “Violence in our communities and against our officers will not be tolerated. These types of events are illegal and cause a significant disruption to communities—we must respond to ensure everyone’s safety. It is unacceptable that we are faced with violence while doing so.”
Community Impact and Ongoing Investigations
Police and Crime Commissioner David Sidwick acknowledged the rave’s severe impact on local residents, thanking the community for their patience and all officers involved in the response, including reinforcements from across the country. Sidwick affirmed a zero-tolerance stance on unlicensed music events, citing the increased risks and disturbances they pose.
Authorities continue reviewing evidence to identify further offenses and will conduct detailed investigations to hold all perpetrators accountable.
Historical Echoes: A Repeat of 2022
The intensity and duration of this incident recalled the Easter weekend rave in 2022, also near East Lulworth, where police spent 21 hours dispersing a similarly large and unruly crowd. Dorset authorities remain vigilant to prevent such events from repeating.
