The UK braces for a surge of fierce winds poised to disrupt travel and cause damage across multiple regions this Easter weekend. The Met Office has issued a robust weather warning, anticipating powerful gusts that could reach up to 90mph in parts of western Scotland.

Widespread Disruptions Expected from Saturday Evening to Sunday Noon
Starting at 6pm on Saturday and lasting until midday Sunday, the stormy conditions threaten to delay road, rail, air, and ferry transport. Regions under alert include Scotland, Northern Ireland, North Wales, and a broad swath of northern England extending from Liverpool to Newcastle.

High Winds Risk Power Outages and Service Interruptions
Forecasters warn that such intense winds could cause power outages, potentially disrupting critical services like mobile phone networks. Motorists, especially those operating high-sided vehicles, should prepare for hazardous conditions on exposed routes and bridges. Several bridges may face temporary closures to ensure safety.
Specific Areas Under Threat
In Wales, the warning covers Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd, and the Isle of Anglesey. Northern England’s North West is affected in locales such as Blackburn with Darwen, Blackpool, Cheshire West and Chester, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, and Merseyside. Meanwhile, the North East includes Darlington, Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle upon Tyne, North Tyneside, Northumberland, South Tyneside, and Sunderland.
Nearly all of Northern Ireland and Scotland remain under the severe wind warning, urging residents and travelers to exercise caution.
