Severe Weather Warning Issued for Northern Britain
Brace for impact as Storm Dave, the UK’s latest named storm, barrels in with winds reaching a staggering 90mph this Easter weekend. Authorities have issued urgent warnings for powerful gusts and potential travel chaos across northern regions of the UK.

The Met Office forecasts damaging winds sweeping through Scotland, Northern Ireland, North Wales, and northern England—from Liverpool to Newcastle—starting Saturday evening and persisting until midday Sunday. Along with fierce gusts, pockets of disruptive snow will hit northwest Scotland, complicating conditions further.
Impact on Transport and Infrastructure
Travelers should prepare for significant delays across road, rail, air, and ferry networks beginning 6pm Saturday. The Met Office has issued multiple medium-impact yellow severe weather warnings, signaling the likelihood of widespread disruption. Power outages are also a concern, with potential interruptions to mobile phone services adding to the challenge.
Extreme Winds and Snowfall Forecast
Western Scotland faces the brunt of Storm Dave’s fury, with wind gusts possibly reaching 90mph in exposed coastal areas. More broadly, gusts of 70mph are expected across northern Britain. Northwest Scotland is bracing for snow accumulation of 5-10cm (2-4 inches) above 200 meters (656 feet), accompanied by a 12-hour yellow warning starting 3pm Saturday. In northern Scotland’s hills, blizzards could produce 10-20cm of snow, combining heavy snowfall with fierce winds.
Expert Insight and Preparation Advice
Deputy Chief Forecaster Tom Crabtree explains, “Storm Dave will rapidly intensify as it approaches from the west on Saturday. Expect gusts of 60-70mph across Scotland, with exposed areas seeing 80-90mph winds. Northern Britain will experience gusts of 50-60mph.” He advises residents in affected areas to secure their properties and prepare for the severe conditions ahead.

Meanwhile, strong southerly winds are also expected across parts of Ireland on Saturday, signaling a widespread weather event across the British Isles.
