Thomas Tosh, a 39-year-old taxi driver from Drumchapel, Glasgow, received a seven-year prison sentence after brutally raping a vulnerable 23-year-old woman he had been hired to drive home. The victim was intoxicated and unable to consent when the assault occurred in Tosh’s own residence.

Deceptive Detour Leads to Assault
In the early hours of September 30, 2023, Tosh picked up the woman and her friends from a pub in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire. After dropping off the other passengers, Tosh falsely marked the fare as complete and logged out of the taxi’s GPS tracking system. Instead of taking the woman to her intended destination, he drove her in the opposite direction to his home, where he committed the sexual assault.
Evidence and Conviction
Two hours after the attack, Tosh reactivated the GPS system to simulate a legitimate drop-off at the victim’s home. His deception unraveled when a friend of the victim identified Tosh from a social media photo, triggering a police investigation. Prosecutors presented compelling DNA evidence, text messages, and witness testimonies during the trial at the High Court in Glasgow, culminating in Tosh’s conviction in February.
Justice Served: Sentencing and Restrictions
On Tuesday, the court sentenced Tosh to seven years in prison and placed him on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely. Additionally, the court imposed a 10-year restraining order barring Tosh from contacting his victim.
Prosecutor’s Statement
Faye Cook, procurator fiscal for high court sexual offences, condemned Tosh’s actions, stating, “This was a despicable betrayal of trust by a man who was responsible for getting a woman home safely after a night out. Thomas Tosh deliberately concealed his location as he drove the victim to his home, where he raped her while it was clear she was unable to consent.”
Cook praised the victim’s bravery throughout the legal proceedings, emphasizing that her courage was crucial in bringing a predatory offender to justice.
