Britax strollers recalled over finger injuries
Britax has recalled 216,000 pushchairs because of the risk of partially-amputated fingertips or broken bones caused by a folding hinge.
The company has received eight reports of incidents, all in the US, including one partial fingertip amputation and severe finger lacerations caused by the fault.
B-Agile, B-Agile Double and BOB Motion single and double strollers sold from May 2011 to June 2013 are affected by the recall.
The models cost between $250 (£152) and $450 (£273) in the US. The B-Agile pushchairs are also available in the UK.
Britax, based in Fort Mill, South Carolina, said consumers should stop using the strollers immediately and contact them for a free repair kit.
It said the affected models have a folding hinge on the right side of the stroller frame that could pose a hazard if parents continued to press the fold release button while pulling the fold release strap at the same time.
The repair kit includes two hinge covers designed to cover the gap above and below the folding hinge.
Britax said that as “a global and responsible company” it would offer the solution to parents and retailers in both the US and Europe.
All the reports of injuries involved people’s little finger becoming lodged in a gap as the stroller was folded.
No child injuries have been reported.
Last summer, Britax reported an increase in demand for one of its car seats, the Baby Safe plus SHR II, after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took Prince George home from hospital in one following his birth.
