The Pentagon has unleashed a trove of previously classified UFO files, igniting fresh intrigue about mysterious aerial phenomena. This unprecedented release includes striking images and documents spanning decades, spotlighting unexplained objects witnessed over land and sea.

Revealing the Apollo 17 UFO Photograph
Among the most captivating items is a NASA photograph taken during the Apollo 17 mission in 1972, capturing three distinct dots arranged in a triangular pattern hovering above the lunar surface.

The Pentagon emphasized that while experts have not reached a consensus on what these anomalies represent, preliminary assessments suggest they could be physical objects rather than optical illusions or sensor glitches.
Trump’s Promise of Transparency Comes to Fruition
Former President Donald Trump set the stage earlier this year by promising the release of “very interesting documents” related to UFOs, stirring public anticipation. The Pentagon confirmed last Friday that the current administration remains committed to maximum transparency, allowing the public to draw their own conclusions from the data.
Files and media will continue to be published “on a rolling basis” via a dedicated Pentagon website, which features stark black-and-white military footage and photographs of unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), accompanied by captions styled in a vintage typewriter font.
What’s Inside the Newly Released UFO Files?
The Pentagon has shared 161 files, encompassing a diverse collection of materials. These include:
- Declassified State Department cables and FBI documents
- NASA transcripts from crewed space missions
- Over 20 video files showcasing unidentified objects detected by military sensors across the globe—from Japan and Syria to North America
The objects vary dramatically, from swift, distant specks to a notable American football-shaped craft sighted over the East China Sea in 2022.

One notable document is a 1994 cable from the US embassy in Tajikistan recounting how a Tajik pilot and three American witnesses observed a brightly illuminated UAP performing extraordinary aerial maneuvers, including 90-degree turns and corkscrews, while flying over Kazakhstan.
Further back, during a 1969 Apollo 11 debriefing, astronaut Buzz Aldrin described seeing “several unusual sights,” including a sizeable object near the moon and a bright light source that the crew speculated might have been a laser.

In a recent FBI interview, a drone pilot reported spotting a “linear object” in September 2023 exhibiting an intensely bright light that revealed bands within it. The sighting lasted mere seconds before the object vanished as the light suddenly extinguished.

Military and Government Response
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated, “These files, hidden behind classifications, have long fueled justified speculation—and it’s time the American people see it for themselves.”
Congress mandated the Pentagon in 2022 to begin releasing decades of UFO sighting records and established an office to process declassification efforts. This move followed military personnel reports detailing encounters with unexplained aircraft.
The Pentagon’s initial 2024 report documented hundreds of new UAP incidents but found no confirmation that any sightings involved alien technology.
